FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT AUDITIONS AT YOUNG ARTISTS:

When will your next auditions be held?
Our next auditions will be held
in  October, 2008 by appointment

Where are the auditions held?
At our theatre facility (click here for directions)

Who may audition?
Auditions are open to children and teens ages 6-18.  You do not need to be a Young Artists student to audition. Children 6-9 will been seen by appointment from 6:30-7 PM, Ages 10-12 from 7 PM-7:30 PM and Teens 13-18 from 7:30 PM to 8 PM.

Is there a fee to audition?
No, but there is a rehearsal fee if you are cast.  Currently enrolled (FALL 2008 classes) students' fee is $225, non-students is $295.

What is required at the auditions?
Each auditionee must prepare 16 bars of a song, bring piano music (no tapes, CD's or singing a capella) and dress comfortably in order to learn a short movement routine and read from a script (cold reading).  Not all roles require singing, dancing and acting, but all three phases of the audition process must be completed.  Expect to be at the theatre for about 1 hour.

How often are rehearsals?
We rehearse for 4-6 weeks, one to three times per week, 1 to 3 hours per rehearsal, depending on role. We willl have minimum 2 dress rehearsals. PLEASE SEE THE REHEARSAL SCHEDULE ATTACHED (SECOND PAGE) TO AUDITION FORM)

When are the performances and how many are there?
Performances for our Holiday Show will be selected weekends in Mid-October and November (no Thanksgiving holiday time).  Generally actors perform at 6-8 shows.

Is the show open to the public?
Yes.  This is an excellent opportunity to learn professional stage skills, as the show is performed for public audiences, including area residents, scout troops, birthday parties, and schools/child care centers.

What do I do to prepare for my audition?
You should also print out and complete the Audition Form in advance so that you may review your calendar for (reasonable) conflicts.  A parent must sign the completed audition sheet. You should also print and read our Performance Policies so that you are aware of what is expected should you be cast.

Is an appointment required?
Yes.  You can set an appointment time by calling 301-604-2844, or e-mailing us at contactus@yatheatre.com .  Appointments will not be taken on the day of the auditions.

When are rehearsals? When are the performances?
The cast will rehearse and perform weekends and a few select dates for groups (optional).  Reasonable conflicts accepted

Thank you for your interest!
We hope to see you in February
