FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT AUDITIONS AT
YOUNG ARTISTS:
When will
your next auditions be held?
At our theatre facility
Who may audition?
Auditions are open to children and teens and young
adults ages 6-20.
You do not need to be a Young Artists student to audition. Children 5-8
will been seen by appointment from 6:30-7 PM, Ages 9-11 from 7 PM-7:30 PM
and those 12 and up from 7:30 PM to 8 PM.
Is there a fee to audition?
No, but there is a rehearsal fee if you are cast.
Currently enrolled (WINTER 2010 classes) students' fee is $275, non-students is
$350. FYI: The rehearsal fee is tax-deductible due
to our non-profit status. This fee helps cover production costs
such as theatre lease, set design, marketing, graphic design, and
administrative costs, but most importantly affords your child or teen the
opportunity to work with a professional director, learning professional
stage protocol from the audition process through the performance period.
What is required at the auditions?
Each auditionee must prepare 16 bars of a song, bring
piano music (no tapes, CD's or singing a capella) and dress
comfortably in order to learn a short movement routine and read from a
script (cold reading). Not all roles require singing, dancing and acting,
but all three phases of the audition process must be completed.
Expect to be at the theatre for about 1 hour.
How often are rehearsals?
We rehearse for 4-6 weeks, one to three times per week,
1 to 3 hours per rehearsal, depending on role. We willl have minimum 2
dress rehearsals. PLEASE SEE THE PROPOSED REHEARSAL SCHEDULE
FOR OUR CURRENT PRODUCTION ATTACHED (SECOND
PAGE) TO AUDITION FORM)
When are the performances and how many are there?
Performances for our next show will be weekends
December 3-19, 2010
Is the show open to the public?
Yes. This is an excellent opportunity to learn
professional stage skills, as the show is performed for public audiences,
including area residents, scout troops, birthday parties, and
schools/child care centers.
What do I do to prepare for my audition?
You should also print out and complete the
Audition Form in advance so that you
may review your calendar for (reasonable) conflicts. A parent must sign the
completed audition sheet. You should also print and read our
Performance Policies so
that you are aware of what is expected should you be cast.
Is an appointment required?
Yes. You can set an appointment time by calling
301-604-2844, or e-mailing us at
contactus@yatheatre.com
. Appointments will not be taken on the day of the auditions.
When are rehearsals? When are the performances?
The cast will rehearse and perform weekends
depending on bookings (not optional) and
a few other select dates (optional).
Reasonable conflicts accepted (see Audition Form)
Thank you for your interest!
We hope to see you at auditions this fall!
